This Colombia Reader is exceptional in the widespread background it provides on Colombia's complex, various, and frequently violent history, from early conquest up to present times. Further, although to reach such a variety of presentation, including the church, arts, literature, and historical documentation, the excerpts are short, they are profound and easily understood from the introductions. I have been in Colombia a number of times but I still learned a great deal from this Reader. It is truly fascinating and a contribution for which its editors must be greatly thanked.
All of the selections I've read so far give me greater insight into this magnificent country. This anthology can be used for the classroom or just for personal knowledge. It is an excellent book and I applaud the editors and authors.
