Wonderful book...I bought 2 more of the books in this series because I liked this one so much... I wanted to see what the comic book scene was like in a detailed way during the fist 5 years of my life and this book delivers... It was an incredible era for comic books and this book explains it all in detail. It was very entertaining from beginning to end.You can't go wrong with book, in my humble opinion. I look forward to reading the book that covers 1965 to 1969, the period when I actually bought my first comics...

Very good book but focus too much on Marvel and DC, I remember back in the sixties there were a whole lot of comics books around, of course Batman and Superman were very popular, and Marvel were going through his golden era, but also we had Tarzan, Blondie, Dennis the Menace, Walt Disney comics, The Lone Ranger etc., Archie Comics was huge in the sixties (To this date I still fail to find a better rivalry that Betty and Veronica in the 60's, forget about Luthor, the Joker and Dr. Doom, they come behind), I can go on long posting titles of very popular books in this age but the author of this book seems to minimize their presence in favor of of the dominance that Marvel and DC (which they also had but with a whole shared market)has had since the 80's, not rightly so back them before that,This said I still love the book, the quality is superb, very recommended.

Wow! This book totally gave me a great understanding of the comic book industry from when I was a kid. Many aspects, that I didn't understand way back when, became very clear. Enjoyable from start to finish. I look forward to reading the other chronicles.

This is the second book in this chronological history of the Comic Book era. I came of age during this time period and really appreciated the nostalgia of my innocent comic book youth. Another great addition to your comic book Library.

Like the one from the 1950s, this is a great gift idea for anyone interested in the history of comic books.

GREAT book! I haven't yet read the others in the series but this one was epic. LOVED it beginning to end.Nice overview of all the comics and genres being published by all the houses in the early Sixties-- DC, Marvel, Charlton, etc. It made me want to go back and sample some of the era I had overlooked before. I learned SO many new things and heard lots of new angles on the creators, the story lines, the business of comic books. Well-written, nicely researched.

I purchased Necessary Evil simply because I was excited about the concept, and having played a few games of it, wanted to get it for myself.The biggest thing, and best, is the detailed power conversion for the Super Powers Arcane Background, instead of the low-power Pulp feel, gives us the completely feeling of four-color comics.And, as a comic book lover, I love reading all the fluff in the material, and pointing out the references to some awesome comics (my favorite is pretty heavy in the spoiler, but if you're a DC fan, you'll recognize the reference to the Anti-Monitor).If you love comics, and love RPGs, and enjoy the Savage Worlds book, I highly recommend this setting and plot point, just for the sheer fun factor. Is it the most serious setting? No. But it is fun.

I think the idea for this game is absolutely brilliant. It encourages a different style of role-playing and even gives those gamers among us (you know who you are) who would like to play on the "evil" side of the fence a little breathing room.The problem is in the rules. The Savage Worlds system is wonderful for what it does - give a quick system for making interesting characters. The problem is one of scope: a super-hero system needs to be able to take in everyone from Aunt May to the Incredible Hulk and that's a problem that a lot of game systems simply can't handle. With a die-system running from d4 to d12, Savage Worlds has to bend a lot to fit in even such low-tier muscleheads as one would find in, say, the Rhino. It's a problem most generic RPG systems run into sooner or later and SW is no different.

The idea behind this is Gold. All the Superheroes are gone, and it's up to the Supervillains to save the world from the Alien invaders. The problem is the superhero creation rules aren't very good. They are arbitrary, and not very customizable. Plus it seems to be aimed at a 13 to 15 year old target market. Which is too bad, as this had Alan Moore and Grant Morrison potential written all over it.

The concept behind the book is brilliant. Aliens attack; super heroes go out to save the planet and lose badly; it's up to the super villains to save the planet. Very well executed and fun.
