I just learned about this book and its upcoming release about a week or two before I had a trip planned to Nassau, so after returning, I pre-ordered it and finished it in a single day. So first, before my review sounds too "all about me", buy this book. It is a fantastic read! And now to what got me...I had two tour companies cancel on me in Nassau for expected high winds. Going to swim w/those pigs was on my bucket list, so I threw all caution to the wind and left all my friends I'd traveled to the Bahamas with (literally) and I booked a ticket for one on a tiny plane and with with a tour company directly on Staniel Cay, where I was met by an amazing captain/tour guide. As the book mentions people becoming desperate to get there - that was me. I was panic-stricken and anxious about how I was going to get there after those two companies cancelled on me, but I was determined to check this off my bucket list, and doing it direct from Staniel Cay was the way to go. I had the single best day of my entire life (shout out to Captain Keiran)! I'm still reeling from the beauty of the Exumas and how swimming with pigs in pristine clear waters somehow took me to a childlike state, where any and every worry in the world flew out the window. I literally squealed (no pig-pun intended) with delight when we approached and Joan the pig came swimming right toward our boat.I say that to now share this - Pigs in Paradise got me in the feels, for sure. I laughed, I cried, I worried, I laughed and teared up some more. Maybe if I hadn't just visited the pigs, I wouldn't have been so emotional. And then again, maybe I would have anyway. The book is so well-written, rich with history, anecdotes, humanity struggles, and of course, all centered around the pigs and people who care so deeply for them. It was also heartwarming for me to hear so much about the lovely people of Staniel Cay, as well as comparisons to 'Charlotte's Web', which was my favorite childhood book. I could not put the book down and even as I write this, wonder when I can go back and see them again. All. In. The. Feels.For anyone who has visited the swimming pigs, this book is a must-read, as it makes you feel like you are right there again and the book is part of your own story. For anyone who has not, it is still a must-read and chances are, Pig Island will be on your bucket list before you're even halfway done with the book.Buy this book - it's awesome!

For those of you who have never been to the Exuma Islands in the Bahamas - which is likely most of you - you have no idea what you are missing out on. I have been very fortunate to have been there many times, and it is unlike anywhere else I have ever been in my life. And it is very quick and easy to get to from most of the US and Canada. This book captures the essence of the Exumas perfectly, including its most famous inhabitants these days...the swimming pigs. I strongly recommend the book, and strongly recommend an excursion to the Exuma Islands!

If you have visited the swimming pigs in the Bahamas or plan to do so you will truly enjoy this book! It provides the unique history of how they went from being a well kept secret for a few boaters to the social media phenomenon they have become. There are also great photos and stories of the many individuals who have contributed to their popularity.

Great book - love the photos. Author is genuine and the content is relevant and informative. I cannot wait for my visit to swim with the pigs in January 2019. I will be using my book as a reference when I go.

A great read! I truly loved this book. I couldn't put it down! It answers many questions about the history of the pigs, and conveys how they came to be such a phenomenon. The photographs that were included in the book put a smile on my face, as I remember how I felt the first time I saw the pigs many years ago. I give it two 'hooves' up! Very well written, the paper is high quality, and I will be ordering more for Christmas gifts!

This is the best word I can write to describe Exuma and the experience of swimming with the pigs.I've been traveling to Exuma for almost a decade and it's one of the most incredible places I've visited. Jeff's book brings the magic to life. If you've been this book is a must for reliving memories. If you haven't been, it's still a must. Read it and it will soon be added to your bucket list!

I have visited Exuma once just this year, in July. We of course booked a trip to swim with the pigs. So it was only fitting that I buy this book. The first few pages gives me chills. The island is in fact of of the most magical places I have visited. (And I’ve been to Bora Bora, French Polynesian) the story behind the famous pigs is even better. 🐷🏝🌊☀️🐽📚

Deep. Wide. Credible. Current. All those adjectives apply. In this overview, Sriram Narayan has successfully integrated a wide variety of experience and principle into a comprehensive, Agile-informed discussion of organizational design, particularly in the context of IT delivery. Narayan first briefly covers the key principles of Agile, and then digs deep into core questions of organization design, line/staff issues, project vs. product management, functional silos vs. cross-functional teams, and many other topics currently troubling the IT industry as Agile continues its inexorable march.This is not some magazine article expanded to book length. Each chapter is well crafted and meticulously researched; reading the book took me quite some time as I branched off into his excellent and credible sources. Some high points:- the evolving relationship of planning & execution, and the need for planners to keep some execution responsibilities- how CapEx vs OpEx accounting expectations drive ineffective operating models- "How Email Shapes Us," with reference to McLuhan, original and thought provoking observations- His discussion of microaggressions in Chapter 14 really made me look at my own behavior.Couple questions:- "Functional silos=bad, product team=good" is near dogma in the Agile world. What about the functional team that formalizes its services to the point they are essentially a product team?- Re: internal competition, he's against it and brings in some good citations (e.g. DeMarco's Slack). But what about parallel development and options strategies when trying to establish a product direction? It seems a zero-sum mentality might be hard to overcome. Same with red-team penetration tests & similar drills.But none of these detract from a solid and enthusiastic 5-star rating. Perhaps more to the point, this is the first book among probably the last 30 I've read that inspired me to write a review.

I'm not totally sure how to rate this book. He basically summarizes many different articles covered throughout the internet. That being said, he seems to be the first the first one to do it.It's a solid book an I agree with easily 75% of it. If you're in the industry you pretty much have to read it. It's NOT an agile transformation cook book.

Clearly one of the best books I have read in the past five years on lean software engineering and agile techniques. This book provides an excellent balance between research results and practical experience. The guidance is not theoretical; it's all very useful.

Getting agile to really deliver on its promises requires more than sprinkling some Scrum(tm) trainers on your engineers. This book has the clearest and most applicable advice I've seen on what organizational shifts are needed to make agile really hum, and why.Very accessible and easy to read, but also full of some pretty deep hard-won wisdom on what works and what doesn't.I'll be recommending this to anyone who is looking to really leverage agile processes for their teams or organization.

I really liked this book. Covers a lot of ground from the problems with a project driven approach, to a more outcome driven approach. Addresses organization, staffing, skilling and budgeting.Makes the point that we are moving to a more responsive [agile] world as against the focus of the industrial age efficient [automation] world.Much of this appears obvious after you read the book, but the author, Sriram, really lays it out in a methodical/surgical way.

Great read, a must for every CIO wanting to reshape their IT organization to support the new world.

There is adventure and a changing of course for many of the characters--as, I believe, would be in the real life story of this portion of history. We are written into the stories of a few lay and key persons during this story and their lives intermingle wonderfully.The book is illustrated beautifully--the images are a cartoon mosaics. They are not on every page (this is not a children's book) but placed throughout in a way that allows the readers aid to their imaginations.I received a complementary copy of this book in exchange for my unbiased review.

I am so excited to see this book available on Amazon. Ever since I heard it was being published I've been looking forward to reading it, so much so that I am buying the Kindle version so I can start reading it right away AND the paperback so I can enjoy the beautiful illustrations.

I bought this book from Amazon and read it before my recent (first) trip to Taiwan. It provided an outstanding introduction that helped me to understand the country's people, culture, and history. Over half the book is real text, as opposed to the simple lists of attractions, hotels, and restaurants that dominate most guide books. Plan to spend several hours reading the book before your trip; you will not be disappointed. I got a lot more out of my trip because I understood what I was looking at.I also used the book's short reference section to help me choose hotels, and the advice was on target. In addition, the maps and photos are uncommonly good.Weaknesses are few. The book's descriptions of individual attractions, restaurants, & hotels (to help you decide whether to go) are too concise. Its inconsistent use of English spellings of Chinese words -- with no pronunciations given -- was a nuisance.I travel a lot and have bought a number of guide books to various countries and cities. More guide books should be written like this one: really helping you to know the place, and appreciate what you are experiencing, instead of just telling you "go here and then go there". I'll buy more of this series, because it added value to my trip.

Ken Ham's book, The Lie, is a master piece of TRUTH. He shows the Genesis of light and man. There is no debate with TRUTH regarding LIFE. In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God. All thing were made by Him and without Him there was nothing made that was made. In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. And the light shinned in darkness: and the darkness comprehended it not. What was still is uh huh!

You can never go wrong with an Amazon Kindle book.

Could be more readable - excellent content!

If you want to be able to understand the glaring difference between evolution and creation, as well as give a defense for what you believe, read this book!

I am a little turn with this book... I found it to be well written but I also found the author to be one-sided. He'd not even consider other views on the age of the earth. I tend to agree with most of what he said, but he came across as very closed minded towards any differing opinions. At the end of the day, I believe us Christians shouldn't let non essentials separate us. As long as we agree that God created the heavens and the earth, who cares how old the earth is?
