This isn't the extreme low/no carb information- this is much more likely to be a longterm viable eating plan. The 'Dummies' books are good in general. This seems to be much like the carb exchange information that diabetic meal planners teach now, without encouraging ketosis (which is not a good idea for diabetics- it's not the same as ketoacidosis, but not a good plan to be using fumes to power the brain, which can only use carbs for optimum functioning). As an R.N. and diabetic, I like this information and guidance towards overall healthy eating (i.e. includes fruits and whole grains).
My doctor recommended this book for those like me who are newly-diagnosed diabetics. Most of the advice makes perfect sense because she urges everyone to eat whole foods---as close to nature as possible. The mystery is why she recommends artificial margarine rather than butter when the artificial spreads have all manner of chemicals in them that you can't even pronounce. Other than that, this is a very valuable tool to help me get control of my diabetes.
I have been trying to lose weight for a couple of years...i gave up because nothing came off and Just figured it was my age, menopause, etc. I have seen friends lose weight on low carbs...but like the other diets, I was not interested in counting everything and figure I will put it right back on. I bought this book and immediately liked the approach and thought I can do this. I started in Nov 2013' and as of today have dropped 10.5 lbs. i have not measured in inches, but have gone from a loose size 14 to a loose 10. Pretty good considering there were 2 holidays. I don't deprive myself but I follow the basics and I refer back to the book when needed. It is simplistic and makes sense. The best part, I love it that I no longer have to have a piece of candy or a cookie anymore.....and it was not hard to get there.
I love this book. I love the idea of having freebie foods to eat all day like many fruits and vegetables. This helps on those days that im still hungry and it helps avoid reaching for the junk and processed foods. I also love the focus on quality carbohydrates and whole foods. This is a lifestyle i can maintain. I have other carb allowances besides fruit and vegetables, so this helps me. I can still eat my popcorn and enjoy healthy eating. This is much less restrictive than other lower carb diets

Past 2 years my eating plan consisted of meat fats and only 10 to 20 gr carbs a day. I am so excited to eat this way knowing it is a safe and healthy plan. Thank you.

It's a good book to help you with a high-protein low-carb diet. I've tried diets and stuck with them religiously, but with no results. This low-carb diet, at first, gave me headaches. Soon after, I found myself eating less, being more satisfied, and having more energy. This diet worked for me!
